Non-traditional property
Non-traditional property can mean a variety of building typologies but has been described as 'A property type that was usually built as part of a government-funded housing scheme after one of the two world wars, intended to provide relatively temporary ‘homes fit for heroes’, although some types were also built privately. Designed and constructed using prefabricated methods such as reinforced concrete, steel or timber frame; such ‘types’ include ‘BISF’, ‘Trusteel’ ‘Laing Easiform’ or ‘Airey’. Thirty types were designated ‘defective’ in the 1980s.'
As described in the RICS 'Residential retrofit standard: RICS Professional Standard UK', published as a 1st edition in March 2024, effective from 31 October 2024.
